With so much to do on the central and southern coast of California, we want your next vacation here to be as packed with fun and adventure as possible. While Santa Barbara is a complete destination in itself, there are a plethora of day trips and excursions to be had when you’re in town. Below is our newest list of some of the most exciting experiences available to you on your next stay:
The Circle Bar B Guest Ranch and Stables, first opened in 1939, is a historic and beloved getaway for Santa Barbarans. Located in the hills between Downtown and Solvang, the ranch is just a 25-minute drive from town, but will make you feel far away from the city bustle. Book a horseback ride an experience the SB countryside from a whole new vantage point! Options include morning rides, half-day four-hour rides, or sunset rides and can be booked online.
Hearst Castle is a fascinating monument along the Central Coast off Highway 1. Technically a private estate, the ‘Castle’ is the ultimate legacy of William Randolph Hearst and his architect, Julia Morgan, and includes 165 rooms plus over 100 acres of gardens, pools, terraces, and walkways. It is a spectacular site and the tours are very entertaining. Just a couple hours North of SB, we highly recommend a visit on your next vacation!
Ojai, just a short drive south of Santa Barbara, is a popular retreat for those looking for the charm of a small town plus the creativity and spirit of the Central Coast. Packed with small boutiques, local art galleries and unique cafes, Ojai is the perfect day trip from SB. Visit the Farmer’s Market on a Sunday, or take a tour through the beautiful Ojai Valley Museum of History and Art.
Malibu is a wonderful cross between beach town and city, and given that it is nestled just between Santa Barbara and Los Angeles, the vibe here makes sense. Extremely popular amongst the young and trendy, the town is the perfect backdrop for an afternoon of shopping, lunch, and beach. Just take the 101 South and be sure to stop at Malibu Country Mart for high-end boutiques and the highly ‘instagrammable’ Malibu Farm for a cup of coffee on the pier.
Santa Cruz Island, one of seven of Santa Barbara’s Channel Islands, is the perfect destination for your next SB excursion. With the best weather, most accessible port, and largest list of possible activities, this is a no-brainer for any traveler looking to add a little adventure to their next trip here. Only an hour away by boat, the island offers hiking, camping, fishing, snorkeling, kayaking and much more!
