Between its love for the environment and emphasis on health, Santa Barbara is an extremely bicycle friendly town and community. There are bike paths almost everywhere you go, drivers know to share the road, and you can take out a free bike from Hotel Milo when staying with us.

If you’re in the mood for a ride, here are the best places to cycle around the hotel:

State Street

While you’ll want to be wary of cars and pedestrians if you chose to bike up and down State Street, the extra caution will be well worth the entertaining ride! With plenty of sightseeing, people watching, and side alleys to explore, Santa Barbara’s Downtown State Street is truly beautiful.

The Funk Zone

The Funk Zone is a neighborhood worth exploring both on foot and on bike. While you might get a good feel for the area walking around wine tasting, it won’t be until you hop on a bicycle that you are able to experience the true charm of this place. With hidden art studios, abandoned railroad tracks, and new, tiny restaurants popping up all the time, you’ll cover more ground if you decide to take a ride.

The Mesa

The Mesa is a great place to bike around and get amazing views of the ocean and Downtown Santa Barbara. It’s also a great ride to take from Hotel Milo if you’re looking for a bit of a workout. While it’s flat on top, getting up to the Mesa requires biking uphill by City College and Ledbetter beach-but trust us, the vantage point is worth the effort.

The Harbor

Going for a bike ride around The Harbor, including West Beach and Stearns Wharf, is certainly the most picturesque and idyllic ride you’ll find. Between old-fashioned ice cream parlors on the wharf, locals and tourists roller skating along the beach and seagulls and kites flying high, you’ll really feel like you’re in the quintessential California surf town.

Montecito

For a little bit longer, but extremely beautiful ride, head south from Hotel Milo towards Montecito along East Beach. Along the way, you’ll pass the backside of the SB Zoo, the Bird Refuge, Santa Barbara’s cemetery, the Music Academy and Coast Village Road. By the time you arrive at Butterfly Beach, you’ll be ready to kick of your shoes and dive straight in!
