With such a gorgeous oceanfront location, Milo is within striking distance of some gorgeous running routes. From the waterfront to the mountains, here are a few of the best places to take a run around Santa Barbara.
If you’re looking for a short but sweet workout, head out the front doors of Milo and go East down West Cabrillo boulevard. Keep heading that way until you come upon Stearns Wharf then and turn right to finish your jog at the end of the pier. This gentle mile-long run is superb during sunset hours and provides inspiring views that stretch to the ocean. Once you’ve gone as far as possible, turn back, or stop off for a drink at the scenic Santa Barbara Shellfish Company.
Old Mission Santa Barbara
Looking for a longer, equally gorgeous run? Head up toward Old Mission Santa Barbara and take any of the roads heading uphill from the Mission. Most of them loop back down and those that don’t can easily be backtracked. This area has a more countryside feel to it, with magnificent Sycamores and Dogwood trees as well as elevated views of the Pacific Ocean. Many locals chose to run from the Mission because of the numerous routes, which range from intense uphill, flat side streets or beaten down paths through the trees.
More of a hardcore trail runner? The Santa Ynez mountains have numerous trails to select from, but Montecito Peak is one of the best. Take Cold Springs Canyon 3.5 miles to the top of the peak and loop around back down. Montecito Peak is a popular running trail for locals who love the canyon and know the killer views at the peak are well worth the sweat. There are also a couple small hot spring pools located at the upper section of the canyon and a seasonal waterfall, either of which could offer a refreshing end to a hard run.
