From upscale wine to alien wine to craft beer, the vibrant and hip neighborhood known as the Funk Zone has plenty of satisfying and entertaining places to have a drink. Here are a few of our favorites.

Area 5.1 Winery

Area 5.1 winery offers a sci-fi neon geekness to an otherwise high-brow wine scene around Santa Barbara. Serving up top blends from their “secret” and “classified” vineyards, it’s a fun Funk Zone spot to imbibe.

Figueroa Mountain Brewing Co.

One of the best known craft beer distributors in Southern California, Figueroa keeps things Funky at their Santa Barbara taproom. Quiz nights, live music and beer cocktails make for a fun pub quality at this otherwise refined drinking destination.

Red’s Bin 211

Red’s is a dimly lit modern restaurant and cocktail haven. Their bloody marys come with excessive garnishes including shrimp, cauliflower and even hamburgers. For something a bit lighter and refreshing, give the Rosemary Gin Cocktail a shot.

Drake Wines

Drake, with its vineyard in Arroyo Grande, San Luis Obispo County, is one of the premier wineries in Southern California. Itsr Santa Barbara tasting room brings world-class blends to a quaint indoor dining room and garden space in the Funk Zone.

Seven Bar & Kitchen

On top of being one of the most popular restaurants in the Funk Zone, Seven Bar & Kitchen also whips up some mean cocktails. The hibiscus cosmopolitan is a fun standout with house-infused hibiscus vodka, rose syrup and fresh lime. One also can’t go wrong with the Jellyfish—Cutler’s gin, aperol, dark berries, lime juice and lavender syrup.
