funk zone mural

Santa Barbara’s amazing art neighborhood — the Funk Zone — is a hotbed for new exhibitions at locally beloved art galleries and studios. Every couple of months, the Funk Zone hosts an art walk to showcase the latest works available for Santa Barbara’s enjoyment. The latest Funk Zone Art Walk took place on January 9, introducing seven exhibition openings and open studios.

Here are a few of our favorite new artistic additions to the Funk Zone this season:

Best Impressions at The Arts Fund Santa Barbara

Curated by Don Zimmerman, this new exhibition features work from several members of the Santa Barbara Printmakers. This collective of artists who create fine art prints using a variety of creative mediums — etchings, collagraph, lithography, and more — serves as an amazing display of local talent. The exhibition is only on display until February, 28th, so be sure to check it out soon!

The Abstract 10 and Michaelkate Interiors

MichaelKate Interiors is one of the coolest spots in the Funk Zone. Doubling as an art gallery and interior design studio, visitors can enjoy shopping and viewing amazing creations here. They’ve recently added an exhibition known as the Abstract 10, featuring colorful and original works of ten local painters.

Gary Chafe: a Retrospective at Studio One Eleven

Studio One Eleven’s January 9th opening focused on an exhibition looking back on the dynamic career of Gary Chafe. Following the vibrant artist’s explorations of sculptures, paintings and etchings, the studio is truly filled with a widespread accounting of an incredibly creative mind.

The Curve at Wall Space Gallery

Comprised of works by ten artists, the new exhibition at Santa Barbara’s beloved Wall Space Gallery is an abstract look into geometry, perception and dynamic mediums. This year, the gallery celebrates it’s tenth anniversary and to celebrate,  they are hanging unique images of each of their talented artists. The exhibit is called wsg: ten. With these pieces of art at the forefront of this new collection, the exhibition holds a nice variety of work. Comprised of respected and seasoned artists, The Curve maintains the impressive standards we’ve come to expect from Funk Zone art.

Hotel Milo Santa Barbara is located mere minutes from the heart of the Funk Zone, offering easy access to the above exhibitions and many more.
