Santa Barbara is a shopper’s paradise. With everything from department stores to local luxury boutiques, California-style clothing and jewelry to antiques from around the world, you are unlikely to leave home without at least a few new purchases. For those looking to window-shop or those who want to splurge, here’s our ‘shopaholic’s’ guide to Santa Barbara:
Paseo Nuevo is the most traditional ‘mall’ in Santa Barbara, although there’s nothing very typical about it. An open-air plaza in the heart of Downtown, here you’ll find major stores you would find at most shopping centers, but designed with specific SB style. Perfect for an afternoon of strolling, there are also great restaurants throughout, including Eureka! for burgers or Pascucci for Italian.
La Arcada is a beautiful and historic plaza on upper State Street that is worth a visit even if you’re not planning on taking anything home with you. Built with fountains, brick walkways and several charming statues, the courtyard feels like a little escape from modern SB. You’ll also find some of the finest galleries and shops here, including the very popular home stores Lewis & Clark and Coast 2 Coast Collection or the unique consignment shop Renaissance.
You’ll surely be including an afternoon in the highly popular Funk Zone for wine tasting, but while you’re there don’t miss some great shopping as well. For home goods and decor, head to Farmhouse Goods or The Blue Door for unique finds. For classic surf wear, don’t miss the famous Channel Islands Surfboards.
Coast Village Road in Montecito is lined with small local shops and restaurants that are some of the best in town. Easily missed by tourists, the boutiques here specialize in Santa Barbara luxury. Look for stores such as Angel, Whiskey & Leather, and Maison K for designer clothing and jewelry curated specifically for SB style.
Stearns Wharf, in addition to being an idyllic spot for meandering, is a great place to shop for souvenirs that feel like the perfect balance between cheesy and memorable. If you’re looking to bring home gifts for any kids, or something that embodies the coastal vibe of Santa Barbara, head to Coastal Treasures or Old Wharf Trading Company. While you’re there, don’t forget to go wine tasting at Deep Sea or grab an old-fashioned ice cream at The Great Pacific Ice Cream Co.!
