Father’s Day at the Santa Barbara Zoo
This Father’s Day, celebrate dad by treating him to a very special Father’s Day at the Santa Barbara Zoo. From
10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 15, Dads will receive a special Father’s Day button at the famous zoo. The entire family will enjoy zookeeper talks about animal fathers in the wild, a meet-and-greet with Duncan the dinosaur, and a special $5 barbecue lunch featuring tri-tip sandwiches, chicken, or bratwurst.
The Santa Barbara Zoo is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Santa Barbara and considered to be one of the best small zoos in the country. It’s located on 30 spacious acres and is home to more than 600 animals and numerous exhibits. One of the zoo’s most famous residents is Gemina, a giraffe with a crooked neck. In addition to their Father’s Day celebration, the Santa Barbara Zoo has exciting programs for the whole family. Here are a few of our favorites:
Summer Zoo Camp
June 16 – August 22
9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. regular day; 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. extended day
Voted “best summer camp” by both Santa Barbara Independent and Santa Barbara News-Press readers’ polls, Zoo Camp introduces kids ages 3 to 12 to the wild world of animals and science. Age-appropriate themed programs include games, teacher-led workshops, behind-the-scenes visits, up-close animal introductions, hands-on science, and animal-related crafts, songs and skits.
Volentine Family Gallery: Islands of Change
March 21 through June 19
10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. daily; extended gallery hours during At the Watering Hole: Conversations about Conservation lecture nights and show openings
This exhibition features the photography of the Channel Islands and Galapagos Islands by local photographers Ralph Clevenger and Mike Verbois. The Volentine Family Gallery is located inside Discovery Pavilion.

Local artist Ben O’Hara focuses on local and endangered species, along with a few favorite zoo residents, with his acrylic paintings on wood. The Volentine Family Gallery is located inside Discovery Pavilion
