There’s a new festival headed to Santa Barbara this year, one combines two of the area’s most sought after attractions—the Santa Barbara Zoo, and the city’s famous wines. This unique wine tasting event, the Roar & Pour Wine Festival, invites guests to sample a variety of local wineries while getting in touch with their wild side.
During the festival, more than 20 local vineyards and producers will provide samples, while wine aficionados visit the zoo’s inhabitants and enjoy snacks from on-site food trucks. A commemorative Riedel glass comes with every general admission ticket. Add a gourmet picnic basket, stocked with everything from brie and aged gouda to tapenades, prosciutto, breads, and assorted fruits.
The Roar & Pour Wine Festival is just one of the many new ways visitors can enjoy the Santa Barbara Zoo this month. The Sunday preceding the festival, the zoo will host an open crafts event for families and children. In the spirit of recycling, swing by the zoo’s Explore Store on May 3rd and make decorative fish using bottle caps from two-liter soda bottles. The week following the festival, on May 16th, the Santa Barbara Zoo will produce an onsite show called Zoos Line is it Anyway? The creative event will source performers from LA’s Impro Theater for an improv show mixed with animal trivia.
The Santa Barbara Zoo is a beloved destination for families and animal lovers. The zoo houses and cares for nearly 150 different species, with over 500 animals living on the property. From African lions to Western Lowland gorillas to Chilean flamingos, the breadth of inhabitants at the Santa Barbara Zoo is extremely diverse.
