Don’t miss the SOL Food Festival on Saturday September 27 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.! The festival takes place in Vera Cruz Park. This isn’t your average food festival — it’s centered on organic food in the Santa Barbara community and celebrates the sustainable, organic and local food movement (SOL). They are still finalizing this year’s event schedule but last year’s festival featured workshops and events held at various stages. The Making Change stage featured a host of eco-friendly topics including workshops on composting, the organic certification process, tomato grafting and irrigation. The Scratch Cookin’ stage featured workshops on how to make cheese, stuff sausage, ferment kombucha and making condiments (oh, hel-lo homemade ketchup!) At the Hands on Kitchen stage, local chefs help attendees make everything from sauerkraut and pickles to probiotic sodas. The Cooking with SOL stage features interesting talks about a variety of subjects including “Secrets to Making Delicious Raw Kale Salad and Almond Milk”, tips on how to go vegan, the alchemy of spices and the 4th annual SOL Food Chef Competition. One of the most interesting festival contests we’ve seen to date also takes place at the SOL Food Festival-the annual salad eating contest! All of this natural food fun takes place to the backdrop of great local music on the Oasis Music stage.
Relax in the Oasis Beer and Wine Garden which highlights local beer and wine vendors like the Brewhouse, Alma Rosa Vineyard, Stone Brewing Company and more.
Another aspect of this festival that we love is they make it so darn convenient to attend! They offer bike valet parking which is perfect if you chose to use one of the Hotel Milo Cruisers to attend the festival. They also offer a refrigerated grocery check so the goodies you load up on at the on-site farmers market can stay fresh.
