Some blues, some funk, summertime warmth, and a gorgeous hillside view of Santa Barbara with the ocean beyond, that’s a combination for a magical evening. This June, a show by the Tedeschi Trucks Band at the beloved Santa Barbara Bowl will bring all of that quintessential beauty to concert patrons and the city of Santa Barbara alike. The band’s distinguished sound, their phenomenal opening act, and the venue’s incomparably lovely atmosphere combine to promise an extraordinary evening.
The Tedeschi Trucks Band is a progressive and high energy blues rock band from Jacksonville, Florida. Previously renowned musicians, husband and wife Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi left their old bands and forged together to start the Tedeschi Trucks Band in 2011. Their studio album debut, Revelator, quickly established the band’s promise by scoring them a Grammy for Best Blues Album, as well as several additional accolades. The Tedeschi Trucks Band followed up with a play off their highly reputable live act, with a live album entitled, Everybody’s Talkin. This sophomore effort earned the eleven piece band a Blues Music Award.
An act as beloved as the Tedeschi Trucks Band is difficult to precede, but Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings are among the few who are up to the task. This riveting funk and soul group also uses an ensemble group of magnificent musicians to curate a sound that’s both reminiscent of 60’s and 70’s American sounds, while producing progressive, original tracks. The toe-tapping, hand-clapping, head-bopping sound of Sharon Jones is sure to get the Santa Barbara Bowl crowd in the perfect groove for Tedeschi Trucks.
Set up high on one of Santa Barbara’s surrounding hills, the Santa Barbara Bowl is an awe-inspiring venue. The small amphitheatre is known for its booming acoustics and magnificent background view of Santa Barbara and the Pacific Ocean. This sublime atmosphere will provide the ideal setting for an energetic and fun-filled evening with the Tedeschi Trucks Band and Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings.
